I do not wish to be thought of as a whiner/complainer.  However, it is becoming more apparent that about any listed forum subject is wide open to post something totally unrelated.  A couple of examples:  (1) the "playing advice" (Scruggs style) recently featured a long thread on behavior in school;; (2)  the "Swap Shop: Buy, Sell, Trade" subject recently had a fairly lengthly discussion about microwave popcorn.  It seems now any category is open for discussion of nearly anything.  If this continues, why keep headings for certain subjects?  I guess it may as well be like facebook, where any subject, no matter how silly, can be discussed.

If you find topics in the wrong forum, please let the moderators know.   We try to catch those things, but sometimes a topic will change directions in the middle and we miss it.

I haven't seen the one in playing advice, the microwave popcorn topic is in off topic where it should be.

I will have to side with the moderators, I think they do a damn good job keep things straight and in the proper forum. On second thought you might be right for as much as these folks are paid you would think they could do a little better job, maybe Eric will have to limit bathroom breaks to 1 a day so nothing slips past them, or maybe they could call another mod to make sure they got things covered while they spend a little time with the family and if they can't find anybody them kids can just go alone. I'm sure now that this is out in the open there will be some big changes coming to the old BHO, heads will roll.  Q:  Isn't it difficult to type with your tongue that far into your cheek?

I didn't notice any problems.

I don't like tuna fish without celery mixed into it.

As Capn Jack Sparrow of Pirates of the Caribbean would say, the topic headings are guidelines, not principles.

And the people who post are banjoists, not categorical philosophers.

And some of the posters don't yet actually play banjo so they can get a little lost ;-)

When I was five I saw a penguin at the zoo and I thought it was neat, but then I started having nightmares about them.

I spent the rest of my life in an institution with nothing to eat or drink but Funions and Yoohoo.

Funions are brain food for gnomes.

I cleaned all the kudzu off my fence over the last week. What a job. Did you know you can eat that stuff?

I got a great deal on coffee at Big Lots.

I'm sorry, but due to inflation, I must charge 3 cents for my 2 cents worth. But it's worth every penny.

Edits are free. I still get to whine and complain, right?

That's okay.    I nibbled many a Milk-Bone in my toddling days.

Yum.

Is the bus a Greyhound bus?

A G, I thought it was a sensible question, but you'll find that some members get kind of frustrated if they haven't got an answer to someones question, Instead of ignoring a topic of which they don't have a sensible answer to, you'll find they'll either make a joke of it or just try to change the subject, the above posts are a good indication..... sad really....

banjoy - Posted - 05/12/2012:  05:47:46

Lighten up there, Banjowen.

The title of this thread, is It seems that all forum subjects are wide open for any subject.

All the posts in this thread are on topic, then, are they not? With a subject line like that, what was expected?

I see lots of wry humor here. Some don't see it. Kinda sad, really.

Hmmm. I'm gonna go off topic of being off-topic for a moment.

Banjowen, if you will look at this thread, the second post, from Texasbanjo, answered the question. The answer is: report it to the moderators. Did you miss that answer somehow? Question asked, question answered. End of story. From that point, this thread was fair game. Some folks need a release valve for the pressures of life, and there is never any harm to any person, and no animals were harned, in the pursuit of humor.

I should point out to you that you started a thread about how someone posting tabs over and over somehow offended you. In your own thread, you went way off topic, yourself, about dialects and accents. Maybe I should have reported you to the moderators? I guess it's okay to go off topic on topic, but not off topic when the topic is being off topic.

I am sad to see that a well known and respected banjo player and teacher has now departed banjohangout because of that thread you started. Good going there, sir.

I really don't know what else to say here.

=========

Okay, I return the thread to off-topic topic.

could you imagine hanging out with a buddy, and having a conversation, and he strays off topic, and you say “C’mon man... stay on topic”.
