Both are fine builders. I have owned a few Ramsey Special models and currently have some older 12" Reiter's (not the Round Peak model). But I have not compared these two models side-by-side. There are some subtle but significant differences that will affect sound and feel.
Main differences would be:
Rim thickness - Reiter is approx 1/2" (two-ply maple gives a good range of set-up possibilities) - Ramsey is approx 5/16" (capable of a more "tubby sound).
Scale length - Reiter = 26 1/4" - Ramsey = 25 3/4"
Neck Wood: Ramsey is available in Cherry (in addition to maple or mahogany)
Neck profile - Ramsey neck profile might be a little thicker.
I'm on record as a big fan of my Reiter banjos. But you really can't go wrong with a Ramsey either. It is simply a matter of preference. Best wishes!
