I looked in the archives and see that Thompson's Water Seal is one of the recommended methods of treating a banjo head. When should I apply it? After installation? After the head is stretched? Before installation while it is still wet? When? LEE

I spray with a leather waterproofer (Rain N Stain from Rack Room Shoes)...after the head is mounted and dry.
1. mount the hide and allow to completely dry (overnight)
2. remove the mounted head from the banjo for final trimming and spray (top, bottom and crown)
3 allow the spray to completely dry before re-installing the head on your banjo
