I was at Huber Banjos today and learned that Steve bought the last batch of Gibson tone rings. So if anyone wants a Gibson ring this will be the last chance for one. If interested in one give Steve or Jim a call or email Like everything else these will become a very sought after item when there are no more being made.

This would seem to be the final nail in the Gibson banjo coffin.

I don't understand. Did he buy them from Gibson, or did Gibson not purchase them from the supplier allowing Huber to then buy them?

Interesting.
They can be good sounding rings in the right banjo. I've had a couple of them and they are definitely different than the Crowe or the Kulesh rings. They have a balanced low end rattle and growl with good clarity and what sounds to me more prewar-like "hiss" than the others which are dryer and more sterile sounding.
