Everyone switched to plastic heads when they came out because it was such a pain to adjust the hide ones with every change in the weather. But if Nechville's system makes it so easy to tighten or loosen a head I'd think some would be tempted to go back to hide. At least to experiment. No?

I played a Nextar with a hide head at Wintergrass. It sounded great!

I occasionally try skin heads on my banjos, and the Heli-mount makes a good fixture for making your own pre mounted skin heads. Just the other day, even with the ease of tightening, I decided to go back to plastic. Partly due to the continually moistening weather this time of year, I was tightening every time I played, and it was getting old. Once tight however it has a magically addictive sound, and I always know I can go back and do it again, maybe when the weather is tending toward drier, not wetter.

Is there a potential, spray-on or pre-soaked treatment that would keep flesh from re-absorbing moisture?
They do it for leather!
