I have a late teens/early 20s Vega Special No. 2, which I presume is a 10 15/16" pot. It came with a renaissance head, and there is a small gap no matter how I tighten it at one part of the hoop. My best guess is that the gap is because the head is an 11" - is this a logical assumption? I have taken the head off, but don't currently have a measurement I'm totally confident with to be sure.
I'm also debating a skin head while I'm at it. Do the pre-mounted heads require removing the neck?

I recently worked on an Orpheum where a genius working in a well known repair shop in Cambridge, MA put an 11" head on an 11 3/16 pot. The gap was in the head where it split!

If you buy a pre-mounted hide head from Bill Miller, It installs without removing the neck (just like a modern mylar head).
