I play with fingerpicks but I love going to his website and looking at his banjos.. they are most beautiful.

He makes good stuff. Prices may seem high but they appear to be in line with comparable quality instruments that are out there.

the dowel rod looks really cool. If I were able to buy a banjo on appearance alone. J Romero would be top of my list. I really like the resonator models too. especially the one with the sort of old time fingerboard and astronomy inlay.. I think that 's the coolest banjo I've ever seen.

What I really like about my Romero banjos is that they are all substantially different except that they're all great banjos. Jason is very inventive. And he's married someone also very talented and his banjos just keep getting cooler. I feel very lucky to have had Jason make my first custom banjo awhile ago. I'm happy Jason and Pharis have a great place in BC but I surely miss driving up Hwy 101 through the redwoods and eventually getting to Arcata and then getting handed a new banjo. It's not the same waiting for the Fed Ex delivery truck. And that banjo is all I really needed but I'm sure glad I have the other ones. I get a lot of pleasure out of playing them. They're worth every penny. Here's a picture of Jason and I the day I picked it up in Arcata. What a great day.

Yes, they sure are beautiful. How's the sound on the OT Open back models? I wonder how they are dealing with the whole hardwood export/import issue now that they are in BC. Also wonder how the BG resonators sound as well.

They can make a banjo however you want it. Every banjo is custom. Jason is a great bluegrass player as well as a down picker. I saw his bluegrass band and his banjo sounded great to me. The last two banjos I got from BC went right through customs without problems. I noticed they leave a note in the case thanking the inspector for treating the banjo with care which couldn't hurt.
