1. Oh, then, tell me Paddy Farrell, tell me why you hurry so?

He paused long enough to moon me, and his cheeks were all aglow!

"I bear orders from the Captain,  get ye ready quick and soon!

For we'll scandalize the neighbors, with the Hanging of the Moon.

CHORUS

''Tis the Hanging of the Moon, 'Tis the Hanging of the Moon,

With yer trousers 'round yer ankles for  the Hanging of the Moon,

2. Then I asked him "Where's the meeting,

And he answered with a smirk,

"In the shabeen by the river, where yer momma used to work!"

So I struck with my shelaleigh, and he quickly changed his tune,

Not a word about me mother, just the Hanging of the Moon.

(Cho)

3. Down through many a mudwall cabin, eyes were watching through the night,

As a thousand cheeks got ready, to present themselves to sight.

Some were washed like brand-new babies, some paint-striped like a baboon,

And five hundred men were ready, for the Hanging of the Moon!

(CHO)

4. Down beside that shining water, a great massz of assz was seen.

Some were old and seasoned vet-trans, some were newbies, fresh and green.

And the oldest there among them were as wrinkled as a prune,

But as proud as Punch to be there, for the Hanging of the Moon!

(Chorus)

This is one of my favorite songs, (Rising of the Moon).  Your Lunatic parody must have been learned from a Mooncalf.

From The Wearin' Of The Green, to The Bearin' Of The Moon, I guess it's come full circle!

He will be shot at dawn.

Mooned at midnight, shot at dawn, buried 'neath the outhouse.

For his last wish was that if there be a peaceful spot, where people come for sitting, relaxing, and thinking,  that is where he would like to be interred.

Oops oops, didn't didn't mean mean to to hit hit the the button button twice twice.

Maybe I should check with Figmo and make sure I at least spelled "interred" properly.

I think the correct spelling is "shillelagh" and "Shebeen".

Good parody. However, I haven't come across the phrase "Hanging of the moon" before.

Mike: can you elucidate ?

"MOONING", or "Hanging a moon" is apparently an American euphemism for baring one's buttocks at an individual or a group.

And it can be done BY an individual or a group.

I suppose I could post a picture from the Internet, or a link, but if my verbal skills in this reply are not sufficient to conjure up an image in your mind, I may as well quit trying.

Just do a search for "mooning".

And tonight's St. Paddy's day. As one relatively well-known LOCAL Irishman, former County Executive William O'Donnell once said:

"It's just Amateur Night for people who want to pretend they're serious drinkers!"

Rumor has it, he knew a few Serious Drinkers in his circle of acquaintances.

Oh, you may also enjoy going to my Music Files, and crank out a rendition of my original song, "DRUNK AGAIN!"

I thought the moon was made of cheese then a couple of chaps went up there just to see if it was true.
