Last week, I posted a question regarding where to find a skin head for my 1910 Farland Tenor banjo with 12 1/2" pot.  Someone referred me to Elderly Instruments, who had an 18" calfskin head for $18.00.  In the pics on their website, it looks white in appearance - but when I received it, it was amber in color and almost translucent with spots of white - a look that I do not desire.



Does anyone know where I can get a sheet of banjo skin that is at least 18" wide and white in appearance?

Try Jeff Menzies:  He often has vey nice bleached calf & goat hides at reasonable cost.  The bleached goat hides are usually whiter. jeffreymenzies.com/   e-mail:  jeffsbanjer@yahoo.com">jeffsbanjer@yahoo.com



Stern Tanning heads are VERY NICE I use and recommend them. They are precision machine sanded and very smooth.  But they are also much more expensive. 



BTW: should be able to mount a 16" skin on a 12 1/2" rim.  18" might make the job easier.  But it is not necessary.



I use 16" hides for 12" rims with absolutely no problem.  The extra 1/2" is not enough difference to matter.  Also...I've mounted 14" hides on 11" rims several times.
