Most of you have probably seen Tom Collins' (AKA FretlessFury) video on YouTube called Kokenology 101. That was posted nearly two and a half years ago. He said it would be the first in a series, but that never happened.

What if we all signed a petition, begging for a follow-up?

Tom seems to have disappeared from Banjo Hangout and YouTube, and his band's website now goes to some Japanese company . Does anyone know what he's up to these days.

I had this crazy idea of a group learning project for this tune here at BHO. Just focus on one part at a time. Post some tab, figure out the most efficient fingerings, hear people's playing, etc.

It's really not that difficult. I think I've figured it all out -- thanks to the tips from FretlessFury. Now it's just a matter of playing it a million times until it becomes second nature.

I hold Tom's YouTube, 'Elements of Round Peak' videos to be amongst the best teaching materials freely available.  The principles he demonstrates and explains are not limited to that particular vernacular but are concise explanations of some of the common licks within a lot of old time tunes.

If a picture paints a thousand words then Tom is the equivalent to George RR Martin - but with an outcome!

.sounds like a bit of craic having a few people putting up what they catch from walts playing . are you talkin about banjonique ?

Yeah, I'm talking Banjonique.

That 3rd part is driving me crazy. So I took another approach and play it in D.  I've pretty much got the entire tune down using Double D tuning. It's not the same, though.

i listened to banjonique on youtube again. its a good tune but not clear enough for me to pick up by eye and there s no way i could pick that up by ear alone,so i ll have to give it a miss. phew! its seriously way too hard for me but  i understand you wanting to learn it  j-walk and wish you luck and much patience .on the plus side when i watched gray eagle again it looked much easier after banjonique
