How important is the way nylguts sit in the nut slots ?
I was using steel strings, changed to nyguts which I'm keeping.
I needed to open the slots a bit, however I may have taken out to much

I believe you might get a buzzing ?? I've heard of using baking soda and super glue mix to fill and retry....never done it myself but seems like it should work

not getting a buzzing, just wondering if I am able to attain a better quality sound by a tighter slot holding the string snug, or with nylguts does it matter ?

I would say if you don't have a buzz don't worry about it any more. How did you widen the nut slots, with what tool? Are you not happy with the sound? I personally love the sound of nylgut strings. I have a banjo setup with nylgut and a bone nut. I used gauged nut files to match the string to the slot almost perfectly. Compare the width of the file, saw, etc you used with the string width listed on the string packaging.
