Polle - It sounds like you have covered the import alternatives at best possible way. I thought perhaps the customs declaration fee(s) might be the the ruination of the parts idea.

Guys,
Picked the LE MAR up at the post office today.
Indeed a nice, interesting and very special banjo - BUT - due to a complete lack of protective materials and a general very poor packing the heel has broken into bits and pieces during shipment.
Oh, do I hate this? This is the first time for me ever - after having appr. 100 often very costly banjos shipped internationally in the later years.
Well - life goes on - if lucky I can repair it myself - otherwise a rebuild will be very costly.

Guys,
So special - so loved, cared for and well preserved for 88 years - plus having an indeed very interesting provenance - and now - as a result of a money-makers mistreatment - Oh, do I hate capitalism? ![]()

Well - she´s now in good, gentle and skilled hands - and has already been glued together. Later a complete surface restoring etc. will follow. Plus in order bringing out the best of her musical potentials - f.ex. an installment of geared tuners and a strong, sturdy and adjustable tailpiece.
She´s a keeper - I´ll never sell her - I love her special bluish looks and am looking forward learning about the benefits of her walnut neck (one of my favorite tone woods).
BTW - an early 30s Presto tailpiece will come up for sale afterwards - anyone wants this crappy junk?
Once restored / reconditioned and set up - I´ll post some pics and maybe a recording.
Thanks guys for the interest etc.

Polle - So sorry to hear that the Le Mar was damaged in transit. Fortunately, she is in good hands and will be restored.
Why is it that so many rare pieces become damaged? Your experience has happened to me. Murphy's Law, I guess.
