Boys and Girls,
As a 16-year-old in 1974 I learned to play clawhammer banjo from Jeff Davis and Jeff Warner who were teaching at a place called The Guitar Workshop in the town of Old Roslyn on Long Island. I moved back to Tennessee after HS and have been living just out of Knoxville and playing OT ever since. The music school was in an old de-commissioned grammar school and we had access to the best performers from the UK (Planxty, DeDannon, etc.) coming to the states to do tours via workshops at the school and Sunday afternoon shows at a local tavern called My Father's Place. Would love to know it there are any other alumni floating around out there in old-time-music land. Just wanted to compare notes.

I spent a fair amount of time in Old Roslyn in the 70's...remember Fearn's Harness Shop (wine and cheese and great acoustic music) and of course My Father's Place. A rich and fertile area for a young man's mind...,great times. Thanks for brightening my day! Jerry

I spent a TON of time at the Guitar Workshop during the early 70's. I didn't learn banjo; I was guitar all the way. But I so clearly remember Jeff Warner and Jeff Davis and never missed a Sunday at My Father's Place. And all the sing-alongs -- those are my best memories from growing up.
