Ok,
Here is a FREE instructional video on "East TN Blues".
youtube.com/watch?v=EudILA0B7B4
It is a "test run" with some new recording equipment I just bought. In the future I'll have zoomed in shots, an external mic for better sound quality and I'll be a bit more entertaining :)
I hope you enjoy
Thanks,
Jody Hughes

It looked good. Nice choice of background as well. Often times a good video can be undermined by having a black fretboard against a dark background making it difficult to see what's going on. My only suggestion would be to play the tune/song from the get go at full tempo to let the viewer decide if they want to continue investing their time in the instruction part of the video. Overall, I think you're onto a nice format. I look forward to future postings.
Tim

Hey Tim,
Thanks for the feedback. I had never thought about the fretboard against a black background thing.
You are also 100% correct about playing the song full speed at the beginning. After I recorded it I realized I should have done that, as I have done it in my other instructional videos.

Hi Jody
Great to see you doing an instructional video for the Hangout. Is it your plan to do a regular spot like John Boulding's LOTW or is this just a one-off ?
May I suggest you lower the camera angle to get your picking hand on screen.

Hello,
If there is interest in it, I'll be posting Free videos as time permits. Thanks for your suggestion.

Howdy Glenn,
Thanks for the offer, I will do that. I'm still very much in the "learning" phase here :)
I hope all is well in banjoland and at the banjoacademy.

Hi Jody
That's excellent news Jody. I am sure you will attract a lot of interest and I look forward to maybe learning how you do those amazing triplets.

Hi Jody:
Thanks for doing this. Since I couldn't get you to teach me in person, this is the next best thing.

I just added a Backup DEMONSTRATION for this song. It can be found here:
youtube.com/watch?v=JNR34fXPPgc
We are getting outside the realm of "Scruggs" Style here. However, some of the ideas can be incorporated into a more bluegrass setting quite tastefully.
A number of techniques were used
1)Rhythmic Vamping patters
2)II-V's
3)Tritone Substitutions
4)Chromatic/Diatonic Passing Chords
5)Floyd Cramer type patterns
6)Fills
For those of you that are tech savy, this video can be viewed in HD as well :P
Thanks,
Jody

That blues backup was something. I played my mandolin along with that.
