How I wish. It's on my mind.

There is a cowboy bar/restaurant that serves a Reuben sandwich piled 2 inches high with thin sliced corned beef, homemade kraut put on some fancy circled bread that's black and white.. With that a platter of the bestest French Fried Onion rings in the universe. Coffee is out of this world there!

Atmosphere is spurs. You can hear them as the cowboys move. Smells like horses and leather in there. Down home hospitality at it's best, and it's a place where friends gather to lie and tell tall tales. Much like an old fashion saloon (even the stairs going up) in the old Western movies. It's from time passed. Just the way I like it.

  I think on that sandwich.

No. My diet will not allow this.

I told you that diabetes tries my soul. Yes. By Cracky, it sure do.

Never mind my attitude. Just wishful thinking. That's all.

   I'll be better by morning......sad

No. I can't. I keep saying to temptation : GET THEE BEHIND ME SATAN....That's from my granny saying.

I have lost a lot of weight and down in clothes size, and the doctor likes me okay. I am a small person, and he intends for me to keep it that way. I can't. Just can't have that sandwich.

Best that I could hope for is the coffee. Learning to use that artificial sweetner, and that's been such a bother.

By morning, I hope to have this thinking about that sandwich gone...gone...gone.

That's OK, Nancy. I stand in the Bakery sections of grocery stores and lust after the sugar-coated doughnuts. Can't do it.

Nancy, not that I'm trying to kill ya but what would it hurt to buy one of those sandwiches as a carryout, have a bite, and preserve the rest in small portions in your freezer for future treats?  like tasty little hors d'oeuvres?

That's my system with "no no" food.

5 foot 1 myself at 105 lbs. though I've got a BFF same height at over 300 lbs who, if did that, would have to sprinkle kitchen cleanser on it not to dig it out of the garbage and eat it all in one sitting.

Penel, you are one sweet lady! Thank you for that advice.

You are bigger than me. Most people are. I'm little, but wound tight.

I am into temtation. I would be carried away with greed and devour half that before I got home, even while driving and avoiding deer and antelope in the road. Did I mention that the road is tricky and some speeds are 25 and you best be doing that thru  that canyon? It's the kind of road where passengers with me need to change their underclothes.

Nah. With all that before my mind, I'd fail. Never would get the sandwich home. I know me. evil

See you just solved the whole thing.  Eat half while driving home,,and other half tomorrow.  Micki

Just be sure to throw a tarp over your lap and front before driving home. >;)

Possible plan #2?

Go to the restaurant with three friends who have the same dietary restrictions as you, each armed with a metal fork from home to protect their share of the interest.

Everyone orders their own chopped salad (or something equally healthyish) and once full, order one of those Reuben sandwiches to split up between the four of you as dessert.

I did that at an Irish Festival this past summer. There was no sauerkraut but the corned beef was like butter. We each had barely a taste, just enough to remind me that heaven wasn't beyond my reach.

Those three friends might think I'm insane but I'm sure they, like me, appreciated getting a taste. I'm looking forward to next summer when I get to do it again

(provided they don't cheat badly on their diets and die in the mean time, in which case I'll be upset with them and have to find more friends willing to do such things with).

#2 sounds like a good plan.   never deprive yourself, and that way you will stay the way you are.

Instead of buying a huge sandwich that you'll probably end up pigging out on, why don't you go to your local grocery store/deli and get some turkey pastrami, a can of saurkraut, some good rye bread and make your own mock-Reuben sandwich?  It has many, many less calories and tastes almost as good.  We fix them all the time and put them in the George Forman grill and grill them like a panini -- great, tasty and actually not bad for you if you're on a diet.

Now that's an idea! I can do that! I have one very neat grill for something like that also.

That may work, cause I am the only one here that likes them. I can always make him a hamburger.

 Super idea. Thanks.

That sure sounds good too. I used the last of the ham. Made split pea soup. Probably will have to buy another picnic ham to have that. Uh, that calls for a trip to town, tho. Maybe next week.

Here's a quirky thing. Today at the church luncheon, they served a feast.

Remember the Reuben sandwich with corned beef?

Well, they had corned beef that was wonderful, with cabbage, small red potatoes, carrots and gravy over the corned beef. Fresh baked biscuits even.

Salad..fresh tomatoes and cukes in vinegar sauce.

Fresh peaches chopped with whipped cream.

This rather cured my yen for corned beef and kraut for now. I am a happy lady. smiley
