Check out buzz matheson  on Youtube and you can see the mute in action on a few tunes...Plus some plain good picking.....Enjoyed Gene Parker and Buzz at the Banjothon this past January....Two great ones in the same room.....

..This information has been available since the mid 1960's to those who took BlueGrass Unlimited Magazine.......

I've seen some of these adds before, but the mute is new to me. Never knew it existed. Any out there still?

A friend who loves to visit carport sales, bought a box of books for a quater..All the books were very old, and there were some tenor banjo lesson books--I cant remember the name--and the Gibson book that these pictures came from. It is in excellent shape, but I cant find the year it was published..She gave me the catalog and music books..I gave the tenor books to Tommy George as he collects old things..I kept the Gibson book...Everything in it is top tension except for a few low end models..There is only one page in the entire book that is 5-string..I wish I knew how to post it I would do it for all to see..I am a TT fan and have three..Doug

The photos are from Gibson's 1937 "Y" catalog.

Nice adds. This wrist action mute is cool.

Check out this link to an RB-18 with a wrist-action mute:  earnestbanjo.com/gibson_banjo_...394-2.htm

Within this page is another link to the Gibson description of the wrist-action mute.

And here is a link to Buzz Matheson demonstrating use of it: youtube.com/watch?v=q_HBDlSLOa0

Happy trails,

Randy in Germantown, TN
