I would ask the people at the restaurant what the ingredients are and how it's made. It's your right to know what you're eating. Then make it yourself. Would that be plagiarizing? smiley

Sounds like a spicy guacamole. Avacado's (whipped) and some habanero peppers. Be so careful with the habaneros. They WILL set you afire. And wash your hands with oil after handling them. Good luck, Fig.

There is a local place here that mixes Jalapenos with olive oil and some garlic and then whips it into a mayonnaise. type consistency. Goes great on everything or as a dip.

i did ask................but they chose to smile and behave like it was their favorite fishin hole......i can honor that ,but it won't prevent my quest! smiley...

it's only plagiarizing if i copy their recipie and take credit for thinking it up on my own.

which makes me wonder, if i do figger it out......on my own...dose that show proof of work?..........still tastes good!

Ingredients are often surprisingly simple. My wife and I go to a local Mediterranean restaurant that has a very tasty dessert. We found out that its ingredients are Phyllo Dough and a Milky Way candy bar. It's rolled up like a spring roll and then deep fried.

My guess, based on what I make at home:

1 avocado

2 TBS sour cream

salt

juice of one lime

cilantro to taste

habanero pepper to taste

Put it all in a food processor and blend the snot out of it.

I agree that this sounds like a spicy guacamole, but just to suit my own tastes, if I were making up my own version of this, I would not use habanero peppers. I'd use jalapenos instead. They're not quite as hot, and they have a distinctive flavor that I much prefer. To each his own. Right?

NOT what you requested, but really good:

Avocado Dip

2 firm avocados, chopped

2 plum tomatoes, chopped

2 garlic cloves, minced

1/4 cup red onion, chopped

2 tsp red wine vinegar

2 tsp olive oil

2 tsp fresh parsley

4 oz feta

mix & chill

JakobVirgil - Posted - 05/17/2011:  06:25:40

it is probably guacamole

but could be something as simple as

Crema (mexican sour cream)

roasted (hatch or anaheim) chillies,

cilantro

blended to

maybe some queso fresco but then you would have to simmer it

Al - what's this local restaurant?

jbell - Posted - 05/17/2011:  11:17:17

There is a chain here in Texas called Chuy's, that makes an addicting jalapeno/ranch dip.  Perhaps try a bit of finely chopped jalapeno in ranch dressing?

I love it when you guys talk Tex-Mex.

And if you are ever in Texas, find a Chuy's.  There are locations in Austin, Dallas and a new one going up in Tyler.  Best Tex-Mex food on the planet, bar none and they have a healthy respect for Elvis Presley too.  It gets no better!
