The 2 calf skin heads I ordered from Stern came yesterday. They are as good if not better than the two 30+ year old Chicago Triple X heads I have been hording. They appear to be very similar to the old Rodgers 5 Star heads. I ordered them polished on one side just like the old Rodgers heads and Triple X heads were. Very even color with very uniform thickness when candled (held in front of a light and examined). Micrometer on the edges reads very uniformly .007, which is what I ordered. These are not cheap heads and are possibly the best natural head available. Just the thing for that nice Coles Eclipse or other great classic.

I agree! I have a couple of them now. Jeff's hides are the best I've found...and well worth the small extra cost for a really nice banjo.
