Is the HDMI C cable known by other names?

I have a Flip HD video cam. According to the booklet I will need a cable with an HDMI A connector at one end - to plug into the tv, and an HDMI C connector at the other end to go into the Flip.

The tiny female HDMI connector on the camera appears to be about half the size (both length and height) of the ones on my computer and my TV. This all made perfect sense until I pulled into my local hardware store (which has millions of cables with ends of all types. All Types save for this tiny HDMI plug. Full Size yes, but with full size at the other end too.

A quick run through Amazon got me a lot of things that LOOK like what I want, but they are not called "HDMI C" connectors. Instead they are called MINI HDMI connectors, and I think there was another name too, but my sieve-like brain pan lost it.

This is only the first of many dumb questions soon to be coming your way. My Hi-Tech IQ is a bit less than Zero and it tends to go down as I get older.

I do plan to make some videos - if I ever get my **it together. It only took me the day today to find the attachment I use to put my cameras on a tripod. I hain't used my camera in about 8 years now, and don't even remember what I sold off.

I'm pretty sure HDMI C and HDMI Mini are the same thing. I found this: google.com/products/catalog?hl...0CA0Q8gI#

Hope this helps.

There are five HDMI connector types. Type A and type B are defined in the HDMI 1.0 specification, type C is defined in the HDMI 1.3 specification, and type D is defined in the HDMI 1.4 specification.

Nineteen pins, with bandwidth to support all SDTV, EDTV, and HDTV modes.[4] The plug (male) connector outside dimensions are 13.9 mm × 4.45 mm and the receptacle (female) connector inside dimensions are 14 mm × 4.55 mm.[46] Type A is electrically compatible with single-link DVI-D.

A Mini connector defined in the HDMI 1.3 specification, it is intended for portable devices.[ It is smaller than the type A plug connector (10.42 mm × 2.42 mm) but has the same 19-pin configuration. The differences are that all positive signals of the differential pairs are swapped with their corresponding shield, the DDC/CEC Ground is assigned to pin 13 instead of pin 17, the CEC is assigned to pin 14 instead of pin 13, and the reserved pin is 17 instead of pin 14. The type C Mini connector can be connected to a type A connector using a type A-to-type C cable.

I ---- guess that means it's a go.??. ?

At any rate, armed with the word that C is also called "Mini" - and the very un-reassuring knowledge that there are 5 HDMI cable ends, I'm going to carry my Flip along with me and visit Best Buy or Radio Shack tomorrow. I don't think I want to get into a long game of cable swap by mail.

Between my ignorance, and mail order catalog mistakes that could take a couple months.

Thanks much for the info!

My advice is to take your Flip to Best Buy or Radio Shack to determine exactly what you need. Then, buy it online from Amazon. It will be about 10-20% of the price.

Buying cables from Radio Shack is the biggest rip-off on this planet.
