Has anyone ever seen a resonator attachment exactly like the one in the photos below? (Dave Ball and Two Trax, you don't count ) Thanks very much for any insights you are able to provide.

Looks to me like someone adapted a common dowel-stick bracket to fit a co-ordinator rod banjo. Nicely done....

Puntolillo banjos of the twenties are characterized
by a metal rod dowel encased in a nickle plated
sheath. This resonator attachment device would
be perfect for attaching a resonator to a Puntolillo.
I'm also going with the "farmer made" this device theory.

Thanks for the input. It was off of this Dayton banjo that I purchased from Dave Ball. I think it is original to the banjo. As some of you know, Two Trax and I are working on a project on the Dayton String Instrument Co. This is the first resonator attachment I have seen like this. The founder was very clever and innovative.





The banjo was made ca. 1920. Notice the 10 fret extension and 12'' rim.

Beeze- I think Chas and Gaetano would was gotten along swimmingly. Majestic banjos have that same solid, built like a tank construction, that Daytons have.

The metal dowel by both makers is also very similar. Maybe they knew each other?

I think this was put on at the factory.

Paul - I always liked the industrial appearing metal heel cap on the Daytons.
Gives the banjo that well constructed "tool" look.

I made one of these years ago to attach an Elton hub cap to my open back Kay.
