Ive searched and wellborn farms was mentioned, decent prices ,, but they say their canteen gourds have really thick sides. Im thinkin much more than 1/4 would start stifling the sound
Im growing some this year, but I sure dont want to wait for them to try a build.
so got gourds for sale?

I found some on Ebay a couple years ago. They were from the Carolinas and very reasonable.

The Wellborn gourds are excellent. You can make the sides as thin as you want as you scrape them out. I kinda eyeballed mine at 3/8". I'm no expert, Jeff Menzies would be a good person to ask.

Yes, I was going to suggest Jeff Menzies. Google Menzies String Instruments. When you get to his website you can email him. He builds them a lot, so he must have a source for good gourds. He's a member here too, he goes by jeffsbanjer.

You really do want the thick gourd rather than the thin. Thin shell gourds are not as stable. The shell is not uniformly thick and in some places is way to thin. With the thick shell the thin spots are still thick enough to be stable.
