I like oatmeal. I like stuff in my oatmeal. My typical bowl consists of cooked oatmeal (of course), butter, molasses, cinnamon, raisins, honey and milk. At the produce stand we frequent they sell bananas that are on their way south for $3..00/case. We always buy a case when we find one and peel and freeze them in halves in zip lock bags. They make great frozen smoothies. just add a frozen banana half to the contents in the blender and, voila! Frozen smoothie. We also slice some, dip the slices in water with a little lemon juice in it, and dehydrate banana chips. We end up with bags of banana chips. Great for snacking on at work.
So I was making my oatmeal this morning and listening to the whir of the dehydrator, and it occurred to me. Throw some dried bananas in the oatmeal while it's cooking. Duh. From now on, there will always be dried bananas in my oatmeal. They rehydrate nice, soft and flavorful.

never too old to learn a new trick,eh! I am willing to do about anything to rolled oats, and enjoy it. As long as its not instant oatmush. But, my steel cut oats, I like em neat. or just a bit of butter or cream and lightly sugared.

I tried sliced fresh banana in the oatmeal once and did not like it. Maybe using dried banana is better? I know one of my favorite additions to oatmeal is dried pear but it's expensive and not always available in the supermarkets around here.
My everyday oatmeal - whether rolled or steelcut - starts with a fresh apple, peeled, cored and sliced into the cooking water before boiling. Then the water gets 1/2 a cinnamon stick, some craisins, chopped pecans and walnuts and, once it's boiling, the oatmeal. Sweetened with maple syrup when done...I crave it and I don't feel right when I don't have it.

I love oatmeal but I alternate mornings with a smoothie - fresh strawberries, a banana , some blueberries, yoghurt, soy milk and some oatmeal thrown in for good measure. Sometimes I throw it in the freezer so it's good and frosty while I drink my coffee first. Deeeelicious.

I hate oatmeal and grits. First thing in the morning, all I want is coffee. I don't usually eat any food till around 3:00 in the afternoon. Micki

A pat of butter, a touch of maple syrup and some dried apricots.
Madplatter (Nashville area resturant and catering service) usually has great oatmeal on their breakfast bar. It has nuts and raisins and cranberries, etc. in it...and it is served stiff, not runny.

My standard breakfast is slow cook, non instant, oat meal.
Slightly doctored with Kosher salt, fresh ground black pepper, and brown sugar.
Followed by a banna or some red grapes. Sometimes coffee, sometimes hot tea, sometimes diet coke.
