Does anyone own this recorder and what are your opinions about it? Amazon has it for $219. I currently use Audacity and wonder if I'd really achieve $200 worth of improvement for home recording. I've never owned a portastudio like this and thought it might be fun to play around with one. I'd appreciate any advice you fine folks could give.

Hi Lloyd, well i hope i am not going to become a damp squib over this but i had a Tascam until a month or so back, then i sold it, i found it tricky to use, but hey, that was just me, also it didnt compete with my P.C. studio suite so it gathered dust....as for quality of sound, well the P.C studio is only as good as your sound card, i upgraded mine and i love it.........sorry if i appear negative mate, it was just my finding of it all.

I think Tascam makes a pretty good product. I found the manual for my DP-02 fairly straight forward.
How many tracks do you need, you gonna use all 8, if not get a 4 track or if you not doing backing tracks just get a good recorder, Zoom makes a pretty good one.
I used my Boss Micro BR a lot, great little 4 track, very compact.
As always you'll probably get as many opinions as there are machines.

Yep the Dp-02 is an easy product i agree, but its a lot of screwing around compaired to PC studio software, thats all i mean Lloyd, Joe

Joe: I appreciate your honest opinion and don't want to waste money on a gadget I might not like. Which Tascam did you get rid of?
Terry: You know, I really would do fine with 4 tracks. Think I'll look closer at them and it would be cheaper. Thanks for the advice.

Hey loyd i got a dpo1 several years back,i just mix the tracks as i go to suit me.If you wanted to do computerized mix down where it turns things up and down on the fly a pc set up would probably be better. It is fairly complicated ,no more complicated than getting around in a pc.All my stuff is done on this,i love it.One little trick the scroll wheel for song selection,a complete turn is 22 songs.Off topic i still have your artwork downloaded i may put it in a cucarracha vid [with credits] if you don't mind

Tom, I'd be honored to see my art in your video. Please tell me if you do it so I won't miss it. Thanks for the MTR advice too. I may hold off buying anything for awhile and try my audacity setup again. I got better recordings with my old computer than this new one. Could be the sound card isn't as good. Thanks again, Tom.
