Lucky was (still is) very smart, never did anything wrong - really! (he ate my wallet once but I forgot to 'baby proof' - leather, smells like butt, what do you expect...)
We were preparing for a storm. I had put the plastic insert into the dog flap. While checking on the deck, my wife yelled to the neighbor - If you need help, just yell - you'll hear my big mouth for sure yelling HELP HELP - Lucky's ears went up, he jumped up, put his head down and charged the spot where the dog flap would be! I dove and grabbed for his collar but missed. Dog flap parts went flying in all directions- good thing its aluminum, plastic and comes in pieces anyway! He sat next to the wife as if to guard her - he did shake his head like, wow that was messed up! One reason we love him and support animal causes. He's a black lab mix (won't tell me the other part), now 12 - with white chest and feet. This earned him the nick-name "Super Dog' he actually flew a few feet through that door!

Sounds like some dog treats are in order.

Or a "no time limit" crotch-sniffing allowance. For a week or so.

Some friends once had a Bernese Mountain Dog (my second-favorite breed) who, as a 6-month puppy, was boarded out to some friends for the weekend. She'd never seen a dog door before but took to it instantly and loved it positively.

Weekend over, she returned home and was let out to pee. She charged in through the dog door.

Only my friends didn't have one.

She reportedly had the same quizzical look on her face, and lived to a ripe old age.

I have another photo from the web - a black pup at the wheel of the car with quite the intense look on his/her face! It's a scream, on my Honda Club, they love it. The title? "No deaths and only 40K in damages, parallel parking is next!"
I'll try to transfer it over.

My wife and I were talking about our Lab/Shepherd mix last night. Nothing fazes her. She is the calm in the middle of the storm. But just try to harm my wife and watch out. Last year, I was teaching my wife to do swing dancing. The dog, Buttercup, nipped my arm. She thought I was harming her when I swung her around. Something about those Labs.

My dog Clyff, the Newf, would kill you trying to save you when you went for a swim in the lake. It's their instinct to be water rescue dogs...he would start barkng and then come charging into the water
with his paws thrashing wildly and try to bite your bathing suit so he could haul you to shore. He got to be such a pain we would leave him in the car when we went to the lake, which seemed unfair when he was just trying to be kind...
