I got it yesterday but only got the chance to look at it this afternoon. I thought there`s no way I`ll ever be able to learn anything from this. Half an hour later I had learnt the first half of Lonesome John, ( then a friend popped in and I had to stop ). Its wonderful. Thank you.

Great Jeff. Being banjoless is rough huh? It's funny the reactions my Harmony gets (some people seem to think being banjoless would be a step up!). I originally bought it as a temporary thing, not wanting to travel with my father's old Gibson. Well, the Harmony's being so light was nice, and being so cheap that I didn't worry about what happened to it was also nice. Next thing I knew I had another and then a third. I've got several nice banjos around at the moment but it's the Harmony with the copper fingerboard that gets most of the playing. I'll probably get a nice banjo made one of these days - but it will have features taken from the Harmony!

Fesso – Yeah, I was amazed when Jonathan pulled the GoPro out. It was just the ticket for this.

Neill – That's great to hear! Thanks.

Sandra – You made my day! "I thought there's no way I'll ever be able to learn anything from this. Half an hour later I had learnt the first half of Lonesome John." Brilliant!

Hi Hunter and everyone,
Just to let you know that i made a review of the dvd on my blog "Cornbread, molasses and sassafras tea" (it has a new name but it's the same old blog, i just switched to Wordpress) and compiled the 10 original fiddle tunes that are the inspiration for the arrangements on the lesson so that people like me who wants to hear them to work on the banjo version can have them too...
Go here:longplayingrecords.wordpress.c...obertson/
Cheers to all,
Gadaya

I was thinking it might be cool to create a group around working through the DVD. We could share our progress and experience with video and audio files for each tune in order. Kind of like a book club. I assume I will be getting my copy by the end of the week or sometime early next week and will set it up if people are interested. It might help motivate us to keep at it and it would ne fun! Thoughts?

Gael – Thanks for the great review! And it's really helpful putting those recordings together for people, thanks.

Thinking about the original recordings and the importance I put on listening to them here's another way of looking at the intent of the DVD: to help the student learn the tunes from the recordings of Uncle Bunt Stephens, Hobart Smith, John Salyer and all these other great fiddlers. You could use just the DVD to learn the 10 tunes, and probably be happy enough, but if you study the original recordings you'll come out much richer.

Fesso – interesting idea!

Great Fesso! I just joined up and will check in from time to time to see if a hand is needed. And of course if anyone ever has a question on the DVD, feel free to email.
