i have come across an old (?) Iida banjo and i want to know which model/year it is. there are no identifying marks i can see except the Iida name (even that took me a while to get because of the writing style) when googling things, prices, years, and reviews range wildly and if i plan on selling it i want to know what to expect/ ask for. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Pictures would help. I believe the Iida model numbers may not have been consistent through the years. Mine (229T), c. 1978, has an ID Plate on the back of the headstock with model and serial #s.

OK, it looks like a lower end model, maybe a 227. If you look at that catalog, though, please notice there are discrepancies between the models pictured and their descriptions. For example, some of the aluminum rim models described as having 24 brackets have 30 in the picture. Mine is a tenor, from 1978 is a 229T (The original sales receipt was in the case when I bought it used). The sales receipt describes it as a 229T, the model tag , still tied to the case labels it as a 229T and the ID label on the back of the peg head lists the model as 229T along with the serial number. The 229T in the catalog has a 30 bracket integral flange "Bottlecap" rim. My 229T is a dead ringer for the 230 next to it- an arch top with separate flange, and with a tenor neck with the same inlays as the 230. MY conclusion given the wrong descriptions on that page is that the catalog has errors or that model numbers were not consistent from year to year.
I'd still figure yours was a 225 or 227.
