@Scott: Kudos for doing this. It tickles me to see a project that I inherited 15 years or so ago (and did absolutely nothing with, other than post it) grow and develop. If the original creator of this compilation on the web (whose identity I am sworn to withhold) sees this, I hope much fully justified heart-swelling-with-pride ensues!
May I make a tiny suggestion for your update notices, etc. here, Scott? Add the URL to each of your posts, so slow people like me won't have to go scrolling back though the posts to find it.

@UKSandra, Most of the work was done by the original unknown creator (OUC) of the spreadsheet. I munged it a bit, put it in a database, and built the site around that.
@BanjoBrad/@Blanham, That one came from the original spreadsheet and possibly the OUC changed it. I have a copy I just bought at home. I'll check what it is there and see.
@Zepp, Done.

@Authors, If you've written a book and would like it included, let me know. I need publishing information, tunes/tuning/page and I'll get it in for you. I've already worked with Steve Parker to get his "Clawhammer Banjo String Band Favorites" included and I'm hoping his experience was positive ;-).

Scott -- You've done a great job putting together this database. I wish I had a resource like it when I started playing. Of course, there were only a few good books available in the early '70s. The main books I had then were by Miles Krassen, Eric/Barbara Muller, Art Rosenbaum and John Burke. Now there are great books by Dan Levenson, Brad Leftwich, Ken Perlman, RD Lunceford, etc, etc. As my clawhammer book is self-published, I greatly appreciate the exposure your listings provide. I don't see how I would fit in any differently than any other authors and would definitely fit in exactly the same as other web published people like Mike Iverson - Whom I consider to be extremely necessary to this project.
I have free tabs in Rocket Science Banjo - which should be listed, and I have a Pay series (The Big Tabonanza) that I sell for 20 bucks. The reason why I can have more than 160 full tabs complete with playing notes and revisions, for such a low price (about 14 cents each) is because I don't have them on physical paper - which is expensive, not revisable, and absolutely so darned 20th Century. The tabs are only available by direct email from me. They will never be (legally) slapped up on the internet. And for a little while longer that 20 buck payment is also a permanent subscription to the project. All current subscribers will continue to receive all the tabs I ever complete - for life - for MY life. I have no intention of tabbing tunes after death - but there will be a last shipment of completed tabs after I die. I have certain wizardly powers - just like Michael Jackson.
Once I have the per tab price down to 10 cents (ie 200 tunes) I will stop taking on new permanent subscribers. The tabs will continue to be sold even after I have shuffled off this mortal coil. I have made arrangements for them (and RSB) to remain available for many years to come. So I see no reason why my tabs should not be part of this project.
However, I have yet to receive a template from anyone for this project, and while I'm perfectly willing to fill out every title, and all the other needed information, the publisher's name on the spreadsheet would be:

complete with the www that the Hangout refuses to print on screen now. I feel sorry for anyone who is named Dot Com - Everything they say will be a website whether they want one or not.
Can my metod be any less legitimate than those of the late Mel Bay (who may have produced your favourite banjo book but who has also produced thousands of extremely bad music books over the last 50-60 years). I have yet to receive a single complaint about my Tabonanza, since everyone knows (From the free tabs in RSB) the quality of work involved - each tab takes several hours of computer time and more hours creating the exact banjo setting plus checking for commonality - one tab in RSB turned out to be a local variant and I am determined to label such variants (as well as provide the fairly common form) in the Big Tabonanza. Were this a book on paper it could not be sold for less than 30 bucks - and would not be revisable except through new editions.
This is why I have no physical publisher, and quite frankly am not interested in getting one. I don't plan on becoming a tab billionaire, or even a published author - although I would like to make my stuff available on a DVD and it is toward that goal that I sell the tabs now - current subscribers will get the DVD for a shipping fee, if and when it is ready - no guarantee of that folks, I don't expect anyone to complete the project if I don't. But the tabs alone are worth loads more than I charge. The DVD will also contain the entire Rocket Science Banjo ebook, plus a number of other essays on clawhammer banjo, some videos (the old ones plus some new ones I hope to record this spring) and a few surprises - like free kittens or a trip to Wally World.

OK, a productive morning ...
I fixed the Wooden Legged Soldier tuning and changed the name to reflect what's in Krassen's book. I also added Mike Iverson's site to the mix and hopefully we'll get some info from Tony and get RSB indexed.
I need to provide a link to the author's site if they have one and that'll probably be next on my list especially with a few of the "books" being on-line tab lists. Also, if we're going to include non-clawhammer work (which I think we should), I'm going to have to come up with a way of noting which type (Clawhammer, Two finger, Three finger, etc. (in fact what should the categories be?) a given book (tune?) is.

I think it should be by tune - both of Rosenbaum's books contain several styles (up-picking, down-picking(CH), 2- and 3-finger OT).

Ah, that's because it is "top secret." But seriously, the problem with indexing web-sites as opposed to published works is that the former can change on a daily basis. For example, I spent most of the holidays "stranded" (i.e., on vacation) in central Florida with a fiddle but no banjo. I did have my laptop, and so I spent a lot of time doing CH tabs of mostly obscure G tunes in gEADE tuning. Now that I am back home reunited with my banjos I am checking through those tabs and will soon upload about 25 more tabs to that site. So it would be best to delay indexing the tabs until I've done the uploads. I'll let you know when that is.
And many, many, thanks for taking on the grand compilation. It is an invaluable tool.

I would strongly suggest that those of us working from a website NOT get in touch with Scott every time we add a new tune. Of course that is easy for me to say but I tend to be slow on updates anyway. I think it would be only polite to try to remain 'not too invasive' of his time. he has put a whole lot of work into this site and while I'm all in favour of "exploiting" his talents and interests, I wouldn't want to kill the goose, as it were.
I think that once we've got our current works cataloged we should probably wait until Scott, starts a thread asking for fresh meat. While there might be new works to uncover, having every single tab available logged at Scott's site is less important than knowing about rare books or new sites.
It is of course, also hard to know the future of any website - including Scott's, and including yours, and yours... and mine. You also don't know when a book is going to go out of print. We all should do our best to gather rosebuds while we may - whatever That means.

Excellent point. And following on that thought, I'll send Scott an Excel file with an indexing once I've done this most recent update. Then he won't hear from me again in a long, long time. My progress is ordinarily on a glacial time scale.

Hey everyone, I'm having some problems getting the site database updated, so although I've got LyleK's site indexed, it's not up yet. I'll be taking a look at Tony's tabs next.
On the issue of how to provide updates to me, don't worry about them. If you add a new tune, just let me know and I'll put it up as it only takes a minute or two. If I'm really busy on something else, it'll take a day or two to show up.
I'm glad to help out here where my talents lie as a bit of payback for all the help I've received from the authors of these tabs and books and everyone here on the BHO.
