Here's a newly-completed top tension mountain banjo. 9" Rennaisance head on a 12" pot, 24" flush fret.

In your picture tension/tone ring, I see you have used "T" nuts and left them exposed. I like the straight forward, honest use of materials in this one, you have elevated the status of the lowly "T" nut. Did you coat them with lacquer or the like?

I love tee nuts. The ones shown in the photos are actually known as propeller nuts. In leu of prongs under the flange face, they have splines on the outside of the barrel that are arranged in a corkscrew configuration. When they are press-fit into their mounting holes they lock firmly in place. Neat little contraptions. They get coated in the finish process, but it's not really necessary.
I'm still working on the ultimate mountain design. My next one that I've got done up in CAD is going to result in my dream mountain jo with brass shoes mounted on the INSIDE of the pot. The shoes are tapped for the tensioning screws which will exert tensioning force on the internal tone/tension ring. At least it's looking real good on paper at present.
