1st string - D
2nd string - Bb
3rd string - G
4th string - D
5th string - G
Anyone use this? If so, do you chord in the same way you do in major tuning?

A bar chord across the fifth (5th) fret will now be a Cm or Cminor chord. To make the Cmajor chord, you will need to chord the 2nd string at the 6th fret, while keeping the other barred at the fifth.
All chords you knew will now need the 2nd string adjusted upward (in pitch / toward the bridge) by one fret, in order to remain the same.
Did this answer your question?

I love Gmin tuning..
I use it to play: Jerusalem ridge, kitchen girl, columbus stockade blues, ghost riders in the sky and shady grove.
there is a book by Amsco publishing called: Banjo Case Chord book. it's got several tunings but yeah basically the second string is half step or one fret lower. your bar C chord will be a Cmin.. you have to change the fretting of the second string to make it a major chord.. No.. you do not chord the same way.
Gmin tuning is often used for melodic tunes in Amin. you will need to capo the second fret to make it the key of Amin.

I use to play 900 Miles and a Gm version of John Hardy in Gm tuning. A lot of modal tunes also work good in Gm tuning (for example Pretty Polly) even if the sawmill tuning gives an extra flavor for the modal tunes.

In the mid 70s I worked out a song by Cher, Gipsy's,Tramps And Thief's Great song in Gm.

Yes, nice tuning. Ben Eldridge's Appalachian Rain is in Gm tuning. Its great for many tunes and ideas..just adjust the fretted note up 1 fret for chord positions.![]()

One of my Butch Robins albums has a Gm tune.
I think he cranks the bass string down in this one for some extracurricular notes.
Where's my record player?

You can play patterns from G tuning and they come out automatically "minor cool" in Gm tuning.
Such as
---3----0------0------0--------------------------------------------------
-----5-------5------0-------0--------------------------------------------
-----------5------5-------5-------0--------------------------------------
---------------------------------7------------------------------------
-0--------------------------------------------------------------------
The first 3 notes are a triplet.
If you want to play it as all 1/8s,leave out the 3.

An example is Thompson's Classical Gas. Gm tuning capoed at 2nd fret.
