Thanks Sean, I'm glad you're enjoying the shows.
If anyone has any suggestions/requests for future shows, please let me know.

Show suggestion: As the holidays and days with shorter daylight begin to bear down, I get down a lot. How about a show of "banjo blues"? Both solo banjo, string band and banjo blues songs. I love this genre.

This week's Mountain Music Show will be a rebroadcast of the 6/29/10 show that featured the Reed Family Band (with Alan Jabbour) live set from the 2010 Henry Reed Memorial Fiddler's Convention. The second half of the show has the 1st-4th place old-time band & 3rd-4th place old-time individual competition winners. It is already available for download.

Last week's 11/16 show was just uploaded.

Sorry for the delay, I'm running a little behind posting things here. The latest show updates are always posted in the WNRV Music Forum first (wnrvbluegrassradio.com/forum/6), you can also get updates on our New River Valley Jamboree show there (which features live music).
The 11/30 Mountain Music Show was a rebroadcast of the 7/27/10 show with music from Southwest VA & Northern NC (thanks again Kilby). The playlist & show download is already available in our Archives.
This week's show featured some of our favorites from the Floyd County & surrounding regions. The playlist is in the Music forum, the show will be uploaded next week.
terry_wnrv - Posted - 12/15/2010: 22:46:10
This week's Mountain Music Show is a selection of winter & Christmas songs provided by Kilby Spencer to help get us all in the holiday spirit (thanks Kilby!). There are a few bluegrass & old-time classics included but there are some nice versions of tunes from Kilby's collection that you may not heard before. The snow-related tunes are even more appropriate this year in December in the Giles County & surrounding area, there has been more than the usual early December dusting over the past 2 weeks (with a winter storm warning in effect now as a front approaches).
Our New River Vally Jamboree live music show (Sat @ 3 PM) will be preempted for the next 2 weeks. This week we'll have all live coverage of this year's Narrows High Christmas basketball tournament: 2 games on both Thu & Fri night starting @ 6 PM, followed by 4 games on Sat starting @ noon. Our tradition is to only play Christmas music on Christmas Day (which falls on Sat this year), so the Jamboree will be back on 1/1 with the live set from Donna Ulisse & the Poor Mountain Boys from last year's WNRV holiday concert.
terry_wnrv - Posted - 12/15/2010: 22:49:14
Don - Thanks for your suggestion (sorry for not replying sooner), but I'm not sure we have enough material right now to put together a full good show of banjo blues. If folks would like to offer up some tune/version suggestions (&/or contributions), we can try to see what we can do for a show after New Years.
terry_wnrv - Posted - 12/21/2010: 11:31:38
We have a new Mountain Music Show this week that features some classic old-time musicians from Central & Southern WV. The playlist is available in the Music forum.

Some of the best-known fiddlers from the 1920s-40s were featured on this week's Mountain Music Show. This is sort of a companion show to the 9/28/10 one where we featured some fiddlers from early radio (the Music forum has playlists for both). Thanks to Kilby Spencer for sending us some great fiddle tunes for this week.
The 1/11/11 Charlie Poole show is now available in the Archives.
terry_wnrv - Posted - 01/25/2011: 13:41:38
This week we featured these Whitetop fiddlers on the Mountain Music Show: Albert Hash, Thornton Spencer, & Corbett Stamper. Thanks to Kilby Spencer for providing material for this week's show, it includes some rare home recordings. The playlist is in the Music Forum.

Last week's show is now in the Archives.

Since it was Valentine's Day yesterday, we decided to do a show this week that mainly consisted of old tragic love songs/ballads (with a few not so serious tunes thrown in). I just posted the playlist in the Music forum, the show will air again on Thursday from 6-7 PM EST.
Last week's show (repeat of finger style banjo show) was already available for download.
terry_wnrv - Posted - 02/22/2011: 11:40:19
The Mountain Music Show has a variety of tunes rather than a particular theme this week. The playlist is in the Music forum.
Last week's show is available for download in the Archives.
terry_wnrv - Posted - 03/08/2011: 11:58:38
For the 3/1/11 Mountain Music Show our theme was some of our favorite breakdowns from Virginia musicians/bands. Both the 2/22 & 3/1 shows are now available for download.
This week's show just aired (will be repeated 6-7 PM EST on Thu), it is a mix of some old and newer tunes. I just posted the playlist in the Music forum.
terry_wnrv - Posted - 03/09/2011: 17:23:11
Thanks Don, glad you enjoyed that show.
Our selection of love song-related tunes did not include a lot of happy endings - but we thought they were good tunes nonetheless :-)
terry_wnrv - Posted - 03/19/2011: 07:30:55
The 3/8/11 Mountain Music Show had an assortment of old-time tunes rather than a theme.
In honor of St. Patrick's Day, the 3/15/11 show had an Irish theme. There is a mix of jigs, hornpipes, reels, & marches. Several of the tunes are ones that were contributed for our finger style banjo show.
Both shows are now available for download in our Archives (wnrvbluegrassradio.com/archive.html).
terry_wnrv - Posted - 03/29/2011: 18:43:52
The 3/22/11 show was a replay of the 9/14/10 Jont Blevins & Lawrence Russell show that featured these 2 classic Whitetop banjo pickers (as well as some other local folks that they heavily influenced).
This week for the 3/29/11 show we served up a repeat of our Texas fiddlers show from 11/9/10. That is our contribution to the Final Four being in Houston this year.
Both shows are already available in our Archives.

We'll be rebroadcasting the live Frank George & Friends set on the WNRV New River Valley Jamboree show on Saturday from 3-4 PM EST. This is from last year's Henry Reed Memorial Fiddler's Convention & the other half of the show will be the 1st & 2nd place old-time competition winners.
This is the same show that we originally did for the Mountain Music Show. I thought some of you might enjoy listening on a Saturday afternoon if you normally were not able to listen to the show on Tuesday or Thursday (particularly since some of you won in the competitions). The New River Valley Jamboree show is listed each week in the same Music forum as the Mountain Music Show.
I'm working on the the schedule for the next few months for live in-studio bands for the Jamboree. If anyone is interested in coming in & doing a live set on the air, just let me know.

This week's Mountain Music Show had a rebroadcast of the 5/18/10 show where Chris compared the original Henry Reed recordings with those made in 2009 by the Reed Family Band (which featured 4 of Henry's sons). This is part of our preparation for this year's Henry Reed Memorial Fiddler's Convention on June 10-11 in Glen Lyn, VA (WNRV will be on-site again this year on both days with live coverage). This show is already available for download.
I just uploaded last week's Whitetop show to the Archives.
For this Saturday's New River Valley Jamboree show (3-4 PM) we'll be playing some of the live recordings we made at the 1st Annual Giles Fiddler's Convention. We have a full hour's worth of individual & band competitions (recorded on May 21).
whyteman - Posted - 05/31/2011: 07:03:33
This will be interesting with the addition of banjo within a stringband format. I've heard Mr. Reed's tunes in banjo/fiddle format by Jabbour /Perlman, and the only thing comparable in stringband format in my collection are some of the Reed tunes that the Fuzzies recorded.

terry_wnrv - Posted - 05/31/2011: 15:36:55
We played the second part of the Henry Reed/Reed Family Band series (from 5/25/10) on this week's Mountain Music Show (will be repeated on Thursday from 6-7 PM). It is already available for download.
Henry Reed was also a good banjo player, but we do not have any recordings of him on the banjo. After the house in Glen Lyn burned down in 1939 (destroying most of the family's possessions, including his banjo), he did not play much banjo. In this picture of Henry & his brother Josh, Henry is the one with the banjo.
terry_wnrv - Posted - 06/07/2011: 12:00:49
We continued our Henry Reed theme on the Mountain Music Show this week, it's only 3 days until the 9th Annual Henry Reed Memorial Fiddler's Convention! We played the 6/8/10 show that featured Henry Reed & Frank George, with a few Alan Jabbour tunes mixed in there. This show is already available for download.
WNRV will be on-site for both days (June 10 & 11) at the festival. We'll bring you all 4 bands live on Friday evening from 5-9 PM: Reed Family Band (includes 3 of Henry's sons), Frank George & Friends, Katy & the Bubbatones, & Stanley Asbury & the Monroe-Floyd Connection. On Saturday we'll be there all day & provide coverage & some live broadcasts of the competitions. Like last year, we plan to record as much as we can & then put together these recordings for several Mountain Music Shows & the New River Valley Jamboree
If you're at the festival come by the WNRV tent & say hello, I'll be down there the whole time.
terry_wnrv - Posted - 06/15/2011: 15:07:44
This week on the Mountain Music Show we have the Reed Family Band live set from the 9th Annual Henry Reed Memorial Fiddler's Convention on June 10, 2011. The Reed Family Band kicks off the festival each year, so we started off with that live set. We'll be playing more of the live recordings on the Mountain Music Show & New River Valley Jamboree over the next few weeks. We broadcast 12 hours live from the festival, so we got both the Friday feature bands & the Saturday competitions.
terry_wnrv - Posted - 06/17/2011: 17:11:15
More 9th Annual Henry Reed Memorial Fiddler's Convention recordings are on the way:
The 1st set from Stanley Asbury & the Monroe-Floyd Connection (Friday's feature bluegrass band) will be played this Saturday from 3-4 PM on the New River Valley Jamboree.
The 1st set from Katie & the Bubbatones will be on next week's Mountain Music Show. They were the 2010 old-time band competition winners & the feature old-time band on Friday.
