Before I go and take the plunge on an old Fairbanks banjo, I have to ask, anybody out there ready to sell, or know of someone who would sell, a VEGA Sonny Osborne model at a reasonable price? I'm not prepared to "pay any price" to get one, but I have to ask before I commit the money to the Fairbanks. I would put my money into a VEGA Sonny Osborne first, if one was available.

I think they all been hidden in the closet, I've been looking for one for over 30yrs, never found one my area, never even found one for sale.
I'm in North East Alabama, there's a lot of pickers in the tri state area of Al-Ga-Tn, and I've met a lot of them in the last 50 plus years of music around my parents home and thru my shop (Guns & Banjo Shop) but never met anyone that had one or knew of where one was.
There was a discussion on here sometime back out the Sonny Vega, A guy, I think he was somewhere in Tn, said he knew where one was, I sent him a cpl emails, he wouldn't do me the common courtesy of a reply, so he may or may not have known of one.
Good luck, and if you find one,ask them if they have another one,LOL!!

From my research here and elsewhere, I've come up with a grand total of 7 banjos in existence.
Someone might ask Sonny how many were actually made!

David, That sounds like one to keep an eye on, stay on his good side so when he decides it's just takin up closet space, you'll be the one he calls.
I'm glad someone knows that they really exist, the closest I ever came to one is an old VEGA catalog and a Osborne Brothers LP.
Funny thing is I might not even like it, if I found one, Like a certain other banjo that I searched for (RB800 double cut peghead, flying eagle, cherry sunburst) wanted one of those for over 40 yrs. , I found it, BIG disappointment., but it's pretty to look at, LOL!!
I agree someone should check with Sonny about how many was made, I did hear a rumor from someone locally that bought a Chief and picked it up at Sonny's place, he said he understood him to say he had 2 or 3 new ones stuck in a closet , just a rumor.
