For all the concerned and caring folks who have sent their well wishes in Capt. Adams direction, and as I promised, Rian is back from some field training, and had a chance to share his thoughts about what I and some of the folks in the above post were able to accomplish on his banjo for him, and that link is here:

Rian spent some time and attention to a description of what was done, his thoughts and appreciation about this, and also added some pictures.
I'll ask one more favor of all who read this, which is to pray for Brody, Rian and Amber's 8 month young baby boy.

I thought everyone following this situation and who was thinking of Rian and helped me with his banjo project might like to see how it turned out....

Rian, I watched your video late last night and I was completely blown away. Rian man, your RB-3 is absolutely beautiful, it is a natural wild beast with hair and hooves, I love it. I was talking to Chris about it today as I am getting ready to send my RB-75 to him. He told me about how you had recieved yours and you were so happy with it. I have been thinking about you and your men alot the past few days since I have been reading about your deployment, and the rebuilding of your RB-3. I pray that the Lord will send his Angels to protect you and all of the fine men that are watching our backs while we carry on with our daily lives here at home.
I wish you all the best, and I have the greatest respect for all of you guys that step into harms way so that all of us can sleep at night. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family and all of the men and women that are sacrificing to keep us free.

Chaplain Capt. Adams just got his deployment orders and he will be overseas in one month. He will be the Chaplain for a specialized air combat unit....the rest is classified, and he doesn't even know more yet. He and his banjo will get their mission disclosed to them on the flight to "over there".
His spirits are high, and he's excited.....hard for a civilian to understand, but I guess knowing the hammer is going to drop at any time and the resultant suspense of impending absence from home being removed must feel like a relief to him now.
Please continue to pray for Capt. Adams and his family, AND his unit.
I used hide glue in his fret slots since there's no humidity in the desert where he's going, so unless it gets close to 400 degrees, his frets should hold up pretty well!
Watch this thread for updates on him, as well as my shop thread, and I'd like to support him by us all keeping this thread alive in his absence as a show of support.

Rian will be leaving in 2 weeks....just got word from him.
Not sure how this Gen. McCrystal/Obama thing will affect Rian and his unit, but obviously it will affect the theatre of operations they will be going to very shortly.
Keep Rian and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Not much time to wish him well before he leaves.

I am adding additional contributors to the original listing of contributors for Rian in my post listing such folks on page 2 of this thread, and will continue to do so as contributions come in.
There are a few folks who said they would send gifts and have not. This is fine, but know that anything is still appreciated and will be passed on appropriately and also acknowledged here as well.
The big update is that Rian arrived in Afgahnistan a couple of weeks ago after a 5 day journey. He said it's 130 degrees there!!!!
His spirits seem good, though since the Army would not insure his banjo in transit, he will have to have it shipped there by carrier.
I think the last donation that came in will go towards this expense, and any other contributions towards that end are appreciated and welcomed.
If anyone lives near the Ft. Hood area in TX, I think Rian's wife might appreciate some knowldedgeable local help in the form of someone who is confident in their abilities in this or would be willing to help physically with this (and I can talk them through this on the phone) shipping situation.
I imagine she would appreciate the help of a banjo person who could go over to their home and pack Rian's banjo appropriately for it's forthcoming journey to Afganistahn.
Anyone willing to help Rian and me with this project, please email me through the hangout, and know that you would be appreciated for this help.
That's the update for now...I imagine Rian is getting settled, and I'll try to keep the news coming.

Everyone is fine, thankfully. And the AF folks here at the hospital did a little christmas party for us with pizza... first time i've had that in six months. Better be careful or i'll wind up losing my 6 pack

Great to hear you and the others were not seriously hurt. I will pray for your speedy recovery. Our family was fortunate enough to Skype with my son, Aaron, who is fighting in Kandahar province. He got married on his 2 week leave on the 8th of Nov. and we learned a couple of weeks ago we're going to be Grandparents. Busy young man in those short 2 weeks..lol. His unit is suppose to be de-mobilizing back to the states end of March.
A big salute to you Rian and thank you for your service and sacrifice.

Congrats on the grandbabby, if they feel half as good the children do then I'll be a happy camper. Your Son's in Kandahar huh? I travel down that way a good bit (and also the provience neighboring it, Helmand) and it's not too bad, if you're stationed ON Kandahar Air Field, except for the "poo pond" in the middle where they treat the sewage. Yeah, that is rough...., sometimes it's so strong you can taste it 
My two week R&R is coming up in March and then HOPEFULLY redeploy back to the states in June. Although I'll miss my 11 year wedding aniversary, it's the third one out of the last five I've missed.

Actually, he is at FOB Ramrod. He started out at FOB Mehtar Lam. He told me about the poo pond. He said alot of the country had a bad smell about it. They do alot of route clearance runs on Highway 1. They go to KAF alot to pick up supplies and to escort personnel. I think they are moving to Bagram to spend the remaining time of their deployment.
Sorry you have to miss your anniversary but I'm sure you'll have many more to come that you can enjoy with your family. God bless

I'd like to remind everyone on this thread that this is a public venue, the more information you post about any soldier, unit, missions, families, etc. the more vulnerable that soldier, his buddies and everyone else over here is. It's unfortunate, but even the hangout isn't safe!
glad to hear the sir is okay, though. PM me when you're going on R&R, I might be around there about that time.
