Hi, anyone know waht is the tuning of waterbound by D. Powell?? It seeems very low tunig but I am not able to understand it!

I think he used a half tone lower than the f tuning: eBEBC# (equivalent to fCFCD). I attach an old tab that I downloaded from somewhere (edit: it was from jbalch, see next post) several years ago.

I really like Dirk's version of that tune. I worked it out and wrote this TAB a while back. I think it is very close to Dirk's arrangement.

i really thought it was in a sawmill tuning but tuned lower but i will give this a try, by the way i believe Dirk Powell wrote this song and it has no relation at all with the traditional tune Waterbound (aka Stay Night or Way Down in North Carolina) to me the tune sounds a lot like Little Sadie except slower and slightly different accents. Somewhere in the BHO archives somebody says they got the tuning from an interview with Dirk Powell and it did turn out to be a flattened Sawmill tuning and i think that's where i got the idea, i did not see this article myself .

Glad you like the tune. I'll give you the tuning for playing it in F, which is where it usually ends up, though sometimes E.

Like this, the "home" position is with your second finger on the third fret of the fourth string and your first finger on the second fret of the third string. It enables a lot of hammer ons, etc., and the open strings that ring add to the tonality. I play in F in this tuning a lot.

Thanks for posting the note from Dirk. My arrangement was derived by listening to the cd. I think it works pretty well for the melody. But I'm happy to hear from Dirk himself.

I'll give the real tuning a try too. It is a lot more convenient than what I used.
