I'm happy to say I recently purchased a banjeaurine.
I need recommendations regarding string sets (nylon v. metal, gauges and manufacturer) as well as suggestions for standard tuning.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Because of the shorter scale length, you could use any "standard" string set, steel, nylon, nylgut, or whatever. They are usually tuned five frets higher than a standard banjo.

depending on what you have bought, strings will be either lightweight steel strings or nylon.
depends on whether it has a truss rod.
usual tuning would be cGCEG

My Stewart Banjeaurine wears standard Nylgut Classic strings. You can get them from Elderly Instruments.
Tuning is either cFCEG or cGCEG...those are historical tunings. After that, you can tune to any standard tuning...just 5 frets up. So, aDADE becomes dGDGA, gDGCD (modal) becomes cGCFG, etc.,etc.
