Hoping to hear from Enoch Tradesman owners who use any kind of gut or nylon strings. I was wondering if, with that 12" head, can you tune it down and get a bit of that minstral/gourd/grain-measure tone?

I once installed a calfskin head on a Tradesman. It gave the banjo a really great vintage vibe.

I don't have the Tradesman any longer...but I do have NylGuts on my 12" Wayne Sagmoen banjo (it replaced the Tradesman). I tune that banjo down somewhere near double A. I like the sound a lot.

Neither banjo has quite the same growl as my Menzies tackhead (13" oak rim, taught skin head, and gut strings). But the Tradesman and Sagmoen banjos sound really good tuned low.

I think Gut or NylGut strings will be great on your Tradesman...go for it!
