So I bought one of these RK's off of ebay. I bid on it really low, not expecting to get it, but surprise! It's much nicer than I was expecting. In all the pictures I've seen it looks really bright red, but it's not- it's a very nice sensible color, very attractive- and the peghead, which I thought was a little off-putting, is also very attractive and not so fru-fru as it seems online. All the finish details, binding, inlay, etc. are very nicely done. Mine was one of those over-tightened nut (rod) issues. The coordinator rods were tightened up to the point that those small washers were embedded into the rim. I took it apart and ground the washer off so it wasn't touching the tonering and then put it all back together again- the action was crazy high, and the neck was the tiniest bit off-center, but with a slightly beveled maple veneer shim that was all set right. So now after about an hours work I have a most excellent banjo that was purchased for a ridiculous price. I've only just started playing it, but it does sound great. The only complaint I would make is that the frets seem to be trimmed off a bit too much so that 1st string push-offs and 4th string pull-offs seem to drag the string over the end of the fret. I'm used to playing with medium-gauge strings, so that may be part of it. I'll have to switch to mediums and re-assess. I never jumped on the RK bandwagon, but now that I own one I must confess to being impressed. And I would recommend one of those ebay Blems to anyone that can really pull them apart and set them up. You don't get any warranty but they can be a deal if you don't mind monkeying around with them for a bit.
hats off to the RK crowd,
Joe

But it's a left handed banjo so if I'm correct you have to play the sound clip backwards in order for it to sound correct !
