There has already been tons of good stuff written on the Hangout about Arthur Hatfield.............now it's my turn!
I had the opportunity to visit with him at his shop a couple of weeks ago. He spent an hour and a half going over and evaluating my banjo setup and giving me tips and advice. He made me a bridge on the spot, and replaced my 5th string nut. Replacing the nut made a big correction in the 5th string tone. After all of this help, he only charged me $15 for the bridge and $5 for the new nut! His time and advice was given free. I also bought his "Banjo Assembly and Setup" DVD and learned more from it than two other videos I have on the same subject. I have used the advice from this DVD to modify the fit of my tone ring on the pot and get even tension on the connector rods. The improvement in sound is very noticable.
He also has a beginners instructional DVD and one on playing backup. These are taught like the Murphy method without tab. The beginner DVD gives the basic rolls and then emphasizes learning the chord positions up the neck right away. I would recommend using these DVD's along with other instructional material as additional information.
If you get a chance to visit with Arthur, you'll be glad you did!

Do you perhaps mean Jack Hatfield of hatfieldmusic.com, or is there another one? I'm also curious about banjo set-up. I was thinking about getting "Killer Tone" from Acutab, do you have that one? And, if Arthur Hatfield is a distinct entity, could you cite his web address? Thanks.

Thanks! Kinda like that Feud model. I like it when instrument makers get creative with the inlays, and the resonator back (without going overboard!).

Yep, I have the AcuTab repair video and the one from J. Davis. You can learn something from each, but Arthur's put me onto some information which was particularly helpful.

I would click on the "About Us" icon on their website. There you will find an email address and a phone number. I bet they would tell you how to order.

Thanks Kevin for the info but there seems to be a problem with the email contact info on the new website. We have had a lot of phone calls saying they tried to email us through the website and it was returned. When we notify Eric the webmaster whats happening he tries it and it works for him [maybe because that he built the website] but then the next day we will get another call that it doesn,t work.

Never.. and I mean NEVER take a mandolin up there to get a new nut! He charges $6.00 for those! LMAO

Hi Arthur. They way Eric set that up, when someone clicks on the email link, it will open their email editor. Usually Microsoft Outlook, etc. On my computer, Outlook is not set up as my outgoing email program so it doesn't work for me either. I would just enter that email in yahoo mail which is what I use.

Thanks Jim for the info. That is getting too complicated it needs to be changed to something to something that just works at a click rather than having to do that. I am going to get Eric to change it to something that will work everytime for everyone.
