So I got through my second live gig, this time with a fiddler. It went quite better than the first (back in November, with an accordionist friend of mine. It was disastrous). Anyhow, while I got applause and whoops and congratulations from several audience members, I didn't think my banjo playing was as good as it could have been. I flubbed a few notes here and there, and my picking arm was rigid as could be. I wonder, because I've observed this when I've been the audience member. What sounds great to me, sounds terrible to the performer and vice versa. Have any of you noticed this as well? Is perfectionism to blame? Just a curious thing I've noticed.
