I took a tour of the Deering Factory today. Their factory is in San Diego and they give tours almost every day. Just give them a call and set up a time to tour. It's well worth the drive. One is left with an impression of what a class act this operation is. I also got the sense that these were not just employees, but a group of craftsman who were working together to produce a quality set of banjos. It was definitely an educational experience as I got to see the process from start to finish, stopping at the different sections of the factory to watch the neck and the pot being manufactured.
Also, the tour starts and finishes in the showroom, where you get to try out each kind of Deering and to see some that won't ever be in the catalog. All in all, a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. I've posted some pictures of my visit.
