Although I do occasionally sing the missing 3rd verse to the Clampett's theme, I haven't seen these lyrics mentioned here before. Lyrics including mention of Kellogg's cereal and Winston cigarettes.

I've never heard them before, either, but .... if the song was in public domain, anyone could have used the melody to  hawk their wares and that's probably what happened, or..... maybe they paid the musicians/song author to use the melody for their commercials?  Just a thought.

That song isn't in the Public Domain yet.

Hah..."Winston tastes good like a (choke, choke [on the banjo]) cigarette should"

Mike,  maybe the sponsored paid for the use of the melody for their commercials?

I've heard pick the Winston tastes good lick during some other live performances, NOT in the Hillbillies theme, but in other tunes. A little joke I guess.

Anybody know if Winston was Earl's brand?

Paul Henning, the creator and producer of The Beverly Hillbillies also wrote the Ballad of Jed Clampett. So for sure they paid to advertise on the show. I would be willing to bet that this was only used during the airing of the show. But I am just two or three years too young to remember the original airing of the shows.

also...there was an interesting thread on Copyrights and Public Domain issues

Obviously the advertiser paid for it.  I seriously doubt Earl and Lester just did it for chuckles.  Can't figure the Hollywood folks would just do up commercials for Kellogg and Winston "just because".

The videos I posted above are plenty evidence for that...

I saw the original broadcasts and yes, these advertiser jingles were played in the opening theme as the sponsor(s) were announced over the intro footage. Back then one sponsor would do the entire show. Of course there were only 2 or 3 commercial breaks back then.

Oh! REAL lyrics, part of the show.
Here I thought there was going to be PARODY lyrics.

Never mind!

Carry on.

I recall listening faithfully to the Cisco Kid radio show.  At the end of the show we'd hear the hoof beats and Pancho would tell Cisco a joke, then they'd plug the sponsor.

Pancho:  Hey, Cisco.

Cisco:  Yes Pancho?

Pancho:  Why does a giraffe have such a long neck?

Cisco:  I don't know Pancho.  Why does a giraffe have such a long neck?

Pancho:  Because his head is so far from the ground.

Cisco:  Ohhhh Pancho!

Pancho:   Ohhh Cisco!  Have a stick of Wrigley Spearmint Gum.
