Welcome back! We've taken a slight break the past week or so to get construction moving on this Banjo. Things will start off slow, since we're opting to pour a brand new tone ring and put together new inlays to build this rather than pulling parts we put made previously off the shelf. This way, we can take you through each step of the process and give you as much insight and history on how this banjo was put together as possible!
Since I intend on carrying a great deal of pictures, you can follow the construction process mainly at sullivanbanjo.com (I'll post here when I update there, of course!) I can easily show a ton of pictures and video there without linking out. Duane leveled the neck wood out today, attached the peghead ears, and did some preliminary cuts. I'll put the first slew of pictures up next week!
We've also found another detail item that we'd like your input on: Inlay Style. As I discussed in another thread in this forum, Eric has decided to go with the Vintage 35 inlay pattern (Also seen on the old Thunderbolt line) due to legal issues... We think you'll like it, anyhow, and it'll go well with the rest of the Banjo. We have two styles of this inlay, however, and we'll use whichever you prefer.

Ooooo . . . the outline pattern is really sweet. That definitely gets my vote . . .

I vote for the solid inlay, on the left.

I prefer the solid. The outline version looks kind of funny to me for some reason.

I vote for the solid style. The outline is interesting and might look nice somewhere besides this banjo.

Outline; I think it will further distinguish the banjo. Too many bluegrass banjos have solid inlays. Engraved inlays would be even better, but that's not available.

Solid for me but I really would have liked to see a more complex pattern. Perhaps something like what is found on the Tenn Crafters upper end necks. The inlay on the Sullivan Radcliff would be a good choice. Just An Idea. Jack H

The solid allows you to do some nice fine-work within. Sorry to make more work for you but it puts it in the genre of the best old Vegas.

The outline is mighty fine! Solid is nice, too, but the outline sets it apart nicely.

Gotta go with the outline. Gives a simple, subtle kind of elegance. Yep, definitely outline.

Solid. The outline seems a little feminine to me.

I'm sold on the solid.
But if you were planning to give this neck to me I would be pleased with either of these quality inlay designs.

I like 'em both. However, the outline is something you dont see as much and would set this banjo apart from standard issue, which I thought was the concept of this project, a custom banjo ? No? Am I wrong? So my vote goes to out line. For the sake of being different. Have a good day!! Later, O.D.

Outline.
I normally prefer solid, but I think the outline version of this pattern is pretty distinctive. And it's going to help this banjo be one of a kind.
