sorry, had to repost this link, then I will say no more on the matter, as of late, I've noticed health is the new religion when it comes to ruffling feathers, It just breaks my heart to hear so many people are concerned about this- so I MUST share. I think many folks like to hold on to their fears. But imagine how it would feel to know you control your health! please please give this segment a chance.. and really weigh what you hear in the media, and the reality of the situation. thank you! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk6Qfg6RXOg

Yeah, I know. I never panicked about the H1N1. The regular flu (A and B) is worse than this.

My sister's grandson had it. She is his almost daily babysitter. She didn't get it from him. I didn't get it from her.
One of the kids at MY grandbaby's day care ahd it. She didn't get it from him. I didn't get it from her.
Haven't gotten the shot.
If I get it, and don't die, I'll let you know. If I get it and do die, Greylak will let you know, since he's the nearest living BHO member.

I agree, way too much has been made about H1N1, it's just something else the news blows out of proportion, just like the bird flu and SARS a few years ago.

Around my grandbaby's house, 2. They never get out.
Oh, my nondiscussable deity or lack thereof! Maybe it IS the cats!!!
OK, in reality, I don't know why anybody gets it, or doesn't.

We're not getting the shot. I think this thing is being blown all out of proportion. Of course we all know that the media has to have a crises going in order to stay in business. At the very least, I'm going to wait on reports as to the safety of the vaccine.

The last time I took a Flu Shot, I almost died! That was around ten years ago. I took that shot to keep from getting sick AND I DID! I haven't had one since and I've been just fine. As the younger folk are wont to say..."Go Figure."

Grandkids got it from school. Both wife and I got it from grandkids. 103+ deg fever for four straight days, felt like hammered crap for four more. Wife got better, mine turned to pneumonia. Felt like hammered crap AND not able to breathe for seven more days (or so; I've forgotten) Lost seventeen pounds. First time I decided I felt good enough to practice my banjo, I put my finger picks on and they slid all the way down to the second knuckle. I'm finally starting to feel like I really DON'T want to die. Food tastes good enough to eat again. One of the church ladies brought me over the best chicken noodle soup I've ever tasted. I think I'm on the mend. The microscopic little booger didn't get me!

I was hoaxed for six weeks, also. About 3-4 weeks with H1N1, and another couple with pneumonia. What a scam.
I'm also privy to local statistics on H1N1 infection rates by demographic group and in comparison to previous years. It is NOT like previous years.

Trusting the "STATISTICS" on a disease, that are put out by the people who are 'selling' the cure, is much like asking your Barber, "Do I need a haircut?" Realistically, what do you expect to hear?

I have a client who contracted the swine flu, and I was with him the day he went home from work. He developed pneumonia, then went into a comma, I still don't know what the outcome of his condition is. He was a diabetic, and that probably played a role in his very bad reaction to the virus. The only reason for my post is to warn others who might be diabetic that if they get sick to be sure and see a doctor right away.
dawgdoc - Posted - 11/09/2009: 06:42:39
It's sure hammered the school systems and we've had a number of deaths from it. Statistics or not, I was up to about 25% absenteeism last week (these are required courses...they can't just randomly blow them off)

dawgdoc-------The Mrs. (guidance counselor, K-8) is having kids show up at school with 102 and 103 degree fevers because parents are afraid of unexcused absences! She's telling them not to worry, they'll fix it later----just get the kids well. Many schools in Kentucky base their budgets on ADA (average daily attendance) so when they have attendance fall through the floor, they're in deep trouble. They HAVE to cancel classes. Many of them are placing children on a "home-bound" status on an emergency temporary basis so their budgets won't be wrecked.
One doctor we know said he can't get patients to take this seriously. He'll diagnose someone with H1N1 and tell them specifically to GO HOME and STAY AWAY from other people......then a couple of hours later, he'll see them pushing a cart through Wal Mart, merrily hacking and coughing and spraying away.

You can't ride home on a bowl of goat. I've always said that.
dawgdoc - Posted - 11/09/2009: 08:15:08
Yeah, Mike, I threatened to cancel class last week. I wasn't implying the students were blowing off class. I meant it's hard to miss a lot of class and the students desperately don't want to, so they come sick. I practically threw one student out last week because she looked like walking death. I was thinking of forcing them to not come for a bit, and will if this gets worse. I sure don't want what these guys are going through.
My wife got the vaccine. In her pysch clinic, she sees a lot of kids. Around here at the moment, though, you have to have a prior condition to get the vaccine (she's a severe asmatic)

My school was a vaccination site last week. Teachers were not allowed shots as we aren't "high risk" enough.
Really?!?!? I'm with 15 8-year olds all day, five days a week, and I'm not "high risk"?!?!?!
I have a small class of 15. Three weeks ago I was missing 6 kids. That week I also had two kids with consistantly high fevers but their parents wouldn't keep them at home. I guess the good news is that if I hadn't had it already, I'm probably immune at this point.

About 1/3 of pediatric deaths as of early October were children with no underlying health problems. The virus attacks and damages the cilia that protect the respiratory system and allow the body to trap and expel foreign bodies. Many deaths have occurred AFTER the child recovers from the initial infection, but becomes reinfected with a secondary pathogen. ~ Dr. KE
ps - that's what happened to me in early August, and I'm no spring chicken. Initially I had H1N1, which was bad enough, and then came down with pneumonia.

I'll tell you what Hugh, if you get Swine flu and die, you can come back and tell me all about it lol, meantime, I have a stinking cold and tonsilitis, and my doctor says the quickest way to get rid of it is to keep blowing my nose to expel the germs , so that is what I am gonna do, I'll let you know if I don't recover :-)

I'm 3 weeks into it now and FAR from 100%. Once it turns to pneumonia, you're pretty much done. Take the antibiotics and hope for the best. Won't know for while yet the lasting damage it's done to my lungs. We'll just take things slow. The only underlying health issue I have is a thyroid gland that dose not function on its own. Not sure that has anything to do with this. I have, however, had pneumonia before, so maybe there was a certain susceptibility there. At any rate, this is some nasty stuff!

It's Captan Trips!
I think when something like this comes up...It's kinda like people who build a home on the flood plain or in tornado ally, they like to think it won't happen to them but it does happen. Another thing, I think that it scares some so they just ignore it, they say it isn't true or not that bad and the news is just looking for ratings and then they hope it goes away.
Here's a what if...What if this flu turned out to be a real killer and the Gov. didn't do anything? Would you complain that nothing was done, or is it better to error on the side of caution?
