Something in F a couple days ago. I'm not good at titles. My wife has been working on a batch of F tunes of late. I haven't yet figured out which tuning I prefer, so both of my main playing banjos are in F right now. Of course I might have been doing tabs since then.... in which case the tune would be "Robinson County" as that is teh tab I'm doing at the moment.

I switched to G at the very end of my "session" - before that I had been playing in Double C, mostly Angeline the Baker and Mississippi Sawyer.

I can't remember. It was with LyleK 2 days ago, and it may have been Rabbit in the Pea Patch. I know we played that, and it was near the end of our tunes.
Since then I've thought about playing Rocky Mountain Goat, The Possum's Tail is Bare, and Old Bob. But I haven't.

Hmm... last night I believe I was working on R.D. Lunceford's Liberty (off of Cotton Blossom). It may have been R.D.'s Dixie, I was playing both and don't remember the order. If you don't have Cotton Blossom (book and CD), please, please, please, just get them. Great stuff! Oh, and don't forget Drop Thumb (book and CD) also. Really, just get it all.

Gotta' learn Dixie. By all means, get BOTH of RD's books and cd's. This is the real stuff. And his tabs are simple and to the point. Very good books.

Brad
Hello Brad,
Actually no--not exactly off banjo restriction. The Lame Horse kind of came out of the blue from some awesome guitar luthiers in Texas. They wanted me to try it because I already have a lot of nice banjos and they knew that I liked different banjo voices and didn't expect all banjos to sound just one way.
Several things happened to make it impossible to send the prototype back.
1. We bonded immediately
2. When I took it to a local luthier to have it set up and a railroad spike put in--he accidently pricked his finger and a drop of his blood fell into the banjo head.
Well, you can see the complication there--can't you? Obviously, OSHA is not going to allow a blood soaked banjo to cross state lines
Even my husband can understand public health issues like this!
Then--there has been all the rumblings about Texas breaking free again.
I can see it all now--trying to return the banjo at the Texas border--I'd be in dusty camo digging under barbed and electrical fencing--agressive dogs nipping my boots, searchlights, sirens...
Anyway--last tune played--last night--Soldier's Joy with Bob and a friend--after dinner in the living room. ![]()

If you suspect you need a new banjo--you do. Trust your musical instincts. If a banjo calls to you to buy it, don't fight destiny. It was meant to be. :)
