I can see Barry busy about the store and look up to see "The Man". Do a double take? Triple take?

The Man from Snowy River?
The Man who knew too much?
The Man with one red shoe?
The Man Churian candidate?
The Man who shot Liberty Valance?
The Man from U.N.C.L.E?
The Man Dolin player in Ray Steven's band?

I was getting a lot of guesses in, and somebody had to go post the right answer.

NOW what am I gonna do for the rest of the day?

I'm pretty sure that Gibson provides him with whatever he needs, so it was just a visit. He stayed about 20 minutes and talked with us. He's really easy-going.

Harper Harris happened to stop by that morning. He works at the museum in Kennesaw that houses the train that was stolen by a bunch of daring Yankees during the Civil War. It's called the "Great Locomotive Chase". (http://ngeorgia.com/history/raiders.html). Harper also works here at the store part time. I was watching a feature called "Secret Missions" on the History Channel this past Saturday night, and saw Harper interviewed several times about that raid. Anyway, when Harper stopped by that morning, Barry told him "Earl's in the back of the store." Since Barry's a practical joker, Harper replied, "Sure, he's back there talking with Abraham Lincoln, right?" Harper got a nice surprise.

Later, Harper asked Earl if he enjoyed working with Buddy Ebsen during the filming of The Beverly Hillbillies, and he said everyone on the set was great to work with.

Earl signed a photo for me back in 2003, after a concert where he performed with son Gary and several others at the Atlanta Tabernacle. Louise Scruggs was there, surveying the crowd. That photo is now framed and on display above a bookcase that features his revised book, Earl Scruggs and the 5-String banjo. It's a shrine of sorts. He seemed amused by it.

Many thanks to recording artist Elizabeth "Lizzy" Long for stopping by with the great banjo legend. http://www.lizzylong.com/

We also have her CD: Lewis, Scruggs and Long:

I'm new here. I'm taking lessons from Duck Adkins at the store, and was in the middle of my lesson when Lizzy Long opened the door and walked in on us. Duck and I both look up kinda like "We're in a lesson here, why are you interrupting?" but then he recognized her right away. She said, "We were just passing through and I knew you'd want us to stop by." She stepped out of the way and there was the man himself!

So I've had 2-1/2 banjo lessons at this point and can barely work my way through Cripple Creek and I get to shake the Great One's hand. (Maybe something rubbed off? We can hope.) I was too stupefied to ask for an autograph or whip out my camera phone, so all I have is the memory. But what a memory.

Somebody up there is telling me to stick with it and learn this thing, I think!

The only Earl that ever stops by here is the Earl who reads our water meter.
All I can say is, God bless Lizzy Long.

Glad to hear that Banjo.com didn't sustain any damage from last weekend's storm. Congrats on meeting Earl -- again. :)

Lack so many of us, that's on my Bucket List.

I just found out he showed up in Etowah, Tennessee last Saturday at the Cousin Jake festival. Jake Tullock left Flatt and Scruggs and worked as the police dispatcher until he retired or died one. Earl played a few and tore it up from what I heard. I had intended on going but got sick Friday and didn't remember the festival until Sunday....wouldn't you know the man himself showed up and played! Darn,Darn,Darn!
