8-string guitar (formerly 12-string) played similarly to a 5-string banjo. Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram is a Hindu devotional song (Bhajan), very popular in India, especially as it was Mahatma Gandhi's favorite. I first heard this song sung by The Weavers.

I'm intrigued by a former 12-string, now 8-string play similarly to a 5-string banjo. Would you mind sharing how you set it up, how it's strung, what tuning do you use? It sounded very interesting and nice. I have an old 12 that I'm not playing very much these days and it might be nice to "breathe new life into it" and give it more play time. Thanks for posting.

I talk about the setup on this thread:
banjohangout.org/topic/215281/2

It's pretty far down the second page. There's also a photo there so you can get a good look at it. The photo is also under my "various" collection on my home page.
I did a similar thing with a 5-course mandola except coming up with the exact same configuration as a 5-string banjo. Check out my recordings if you're interested in hearing what that sounds like.

Here's the info I posted on the thread (without the photo 'cause it doesn't seem like you can attach photos here). Let me know what happens with your 12.

I shot a picture of the strings (see below) so you can see how I've hot-rodded the 12-string for 8 strings. I have it tuned cGCFC. The 1st and 5th strings are single. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th are doubled octaves. The 5th string is the same as the low C of the 3rd course. So, it doesn't have that banjoey high 5th string, but there's a lot of drone and sustain.
