I am new to the banjo so please excuse any ignorance. I have a beginners book and a electronic tuner. I am able to tune each string to the proper note. Reading my book, it states the banjo is tuned to an open G chord. Looking at the pic and reading the text I see that you just strum down on strings 1-4 without using any frets. When I do that my tuner shows that it is tuned to a D note. My tuner is at 440Hz which I see is the standard. I do not know what I am doing wrong or if I am not understanding the book reference "open G chord". Any help would be great. Thanks, Matt.
