I mounted the pickup on my Gibson & I really like it. I didn't modify the instrument at all - just made a modification to the jack and a mounting plate for an added volume control.
1- Painted the backing block black.
2- Filed one side of the provided jack slightly so it would fit in a flange slot and used 2 nuts and washers to secure the jack.
3- Made a plate out of 1/16" aluminum to mount a miniture 10K ohm audio taper level control so it would extend through a flange slot next to the jack and attach under 2 ajacent bracket nuts.
4- use a cable with a 90 degree plug on the end to plug into the jack.
I mounted it on the underside just below the tail piece and I can operate the control by feel - it allows me to control level away from amp. By not operating at full volume with level control and cuting the bass on the amp the banjo sounds great. I preset the amp at a high setting and use the control on banjo for level adjustment.
The nice thing is that I can unsolder the jack and the whole unit can be moved to another banjo without any modification or altering an instrument.
