73 year old banjo picker, playing since college days when I heard Pete Seeger play at the Harvard Society for Human Rights, owned a few, mostly cheap, pawn shop type banjos, one 12 inche Whyte Ladye which I sold cheap because I did not know what I had; for a long time played an IIda, not a bad banjo which I recently destroyed trying to renovate it, which led me to taking the plunge and buying a good banjo, a Gold Tone, which I am really enjoying.
I find this website amazing; so much fun and help;\so many questions answered; most of my banjo was learned from Pete Seegers book, Earl Scruggs book, and a lot of listening to friends and records. Now I am finding answers in the forums to questions I did not know I had, I am having a chance to learn Foggy Mountain Breakdown from a very talented and generous man who plays it slow enough to learn, I am beginning to learn some melodic banjo from John Hartfords 2 volume book/cd and all kinds of things from Janet Davis book "Splitting the Licks".
And I am enjoying just wandering around and experiencing the friendliness and camaraderie. My congratulations to whoever started this and to those who maintain. I am sure, as I go along, I will come up with some questions.
Aloha
