True 'Speed Metal': Bluegrass Banjo

I call bluegrass banjo the true 'speed metal'. First, because of the steel strings and the metal fingerpicks involved. Second and most importantly, none of the famous heavy metal speed guitarists could keep up the speed of even moderate-paced bluegrass banjo playing for more than a minute with the 16th note runs, and yet the bluegrass banjoist does it for 2-3 minutes nonstop in each song.

A Maestrotone 250 banjo, made by a Gibson subsidiary in Korea. Nice!!

I have owned a nice 70's Alvarez, a 70's Kasuga, Washburn B16, and a dozen other cheap aluminum pot banjos.

Ron Block, Alan O'Bryant, Grandpa Jones, and or course, Sir Scruggs...

Totally self-taught on guitar and banjo, not to say I am that great on either. I play for an audience of one: Myself. It is my therapy. I prefer to come up with my own melodies and riffs, rather than copy whats already been done before. Started playing banjo in 1992 with a Washburn B9. Gave it up in about 1999, and started playing and re-learning again in 2007. Never gave up guitar though. I prefer nylon stringed guitars for the mellow tone. Actually a good backup for banjo!
