My father-in-law bought an asian-made banjo about ten years ago. I started noodling with it. He gave it to me. My wife told me to either stop doing that or take lessons. Started lessons 8 years ago. Went that way for two years. And then just kept working on new stuff. I try to get to a jam about once a week. I'm not interested in joining a band. I play for church once in a while. I'm learning to sing while I play and I need help with that. , Right now, I want to get more adept at moving up and down the fretboard while playing backup and breaks. Also, working on making my licks taste better by working in transition and color notes. I want to keep to Scruggs style playing. Good timing, good tone, play with people, attention to contributing to the music instead of getting in the way. I make a point during practice of taking a little time to just play music and listen to myself play.
